About me and my offline-to-online journey
Hi from New York! I’m Alex (actually, it’s Alexander, but people call me Alex for about a decade now after my trans-continental move from Europe). Local authorities back then spelled, or misspelled, my name the way no one could ever pronounce.
I’ve also known by two nicknames: Cookie Monster and Mr. Bean thanks to my co-workers. Maybe I resemble those characters a little, even though it has nothing to do with being a blue hairy monster with a limited vocabulary. I love cookies, though.
I am probably not the only one who can say: I’m not super fast when it comes to making a right decision and go for it. Figurally speaking, if my life was a train station, and my success was a train, you’d be seeing me running on a platform realizing that I missed the train by seconds, and trying to jump into the last car before the train picked up the speed. I could write a book about it...
Many people envy me. They think living in New York is a dream come true. It is for me now. What they don’t realize is that it takes years of all kinds of jobs, failures, stresses, getting used to smoking, low salaries, and insecurities to achieve the result. After all, who wants to pump gas or deliver pizza 10 hours a day 6 days a week for a minimum pay?!
Little by little, I became a computer technician. And later “self-promoted” myself to sales, changing several companies so far. Unless my employer goes out of business, I don’t normally even think about changing jobs.
At some point in my sales career, I was even a shoe salesman. Not surprisingly, “Married with children” was one of my favorite shows. Of course, my family life was not as miserable (I’m married to a beautiful woman and have amazing kids). But, moneywise, that job was a disaster.
A "dream come true" with an exception...
If you ever visited Empire State Building or Rockefeller Center in New York City, you remember breathtaking views from the observation desks. Standing up there, you realize how amazing our civilization is, and that you are just a tiny particle of it. And you ask yourself:
Do I like what I do for living?
Do I enjoy the results of my work?
Is my family proud of me?
And what is your honest answer? As they say, tell me about it!
Personally, after ten year of living in New York the result was a full time job with not so much money left after paying all the bills. I didn’t work to live, I lived to work. Awkward, wasn’t it?!
A kick in a rear as a jump-start for success...
Bad economy finished the process. I found myself spending more time at work than before and making one third of my previous income (if I was lucky). I realized that my next paycheck would not cover all the bills (and forget the dinners, movies, shows, and all the other fun stuff), so I set myself a new goal:
It’s time for me to really think about a second job.
I want to finally do what I like, what I’m passionate for, something that makes me proud and beneficial for the others.
It sounded too good to be true. I didn’t think I had skills to start a new business, for instance. All my attempts to find a solution researching things online (I could sense all those “get rich quick” schemes) failed. I was psychologically preparing myself to re-entry “pizza delivery business”, but I never stopped searching…

Never ever give up!
I was a smoker for years and managed to quit. I personally felt negative effects of smoking and wanted to share the importance of getting rid of that bad habit as soon as possible. Helping others to stop smoking is my passion.
My first attempt was to start a blog to share my thoughts and ideas on how to help people quit. Not a singe response… That was very discouraging… I had no idea why at that time. One day, I was browsing the web and found SBI.
Site Build It! (SBI) helped me transform my skills, hobbies, and passions into an effective online business. Did you know that anything you feel knowledgeable about can and should make money with a website? You can do what you always wanted to and make money at the same time!
I know, you’re going to ask: “What if I have no idea how to build a website, no clue about programming, no business to run, and no product to sell?” I had the same questions when I first found SBI. And I found the answers for all of them.
At SBI, they literally educated me and walked me trough the process step by step. They helped me find the best subject and a great name for my website, they gave me all the tools to build it quickly and professionally, they showed me how to generate traffic and income!
